
WEEKLY RACES - Is speed your thing? Do you like competition? Would you like to learn how to race a sailboat and go faster? Why not come to our Wednesday Night Racing to hone your skills with our instructors to assist you. As an added bonus, experienced Pistakee Yacht Club racing sailors will be there to provide you with personal one-on-one help. We set up a different race course each week. We focus on various racing skills, skippering, crewing starts, upwind skills, mark roundings, downwind speed, plus racing rules and strategies.
REGATTAS - We will also have competitive regatta racing events on July 9, 2025 (Week 5) and August 13, 2025 (Week 10). Regatta festivities will include the awarding of trophies, plus an onshore celebration. Family and friends are welcome!
RULES - You need to have your boat rigged and be ready to leave the dock at 4:30pm. We have a variety of dinghies (Toppers, 420) available for your use. Races end by 7:00pm. You must have completed one of our sailing classes prior to racing.

RIGHT OF WAY WHEN RACING
ON OPPOSITE TACKS (Rule 10): When boats are on opposite tacks, a port-tack boat shall keep clear of a starboard-tack boat.
ON THE SAME TACK - OVERLAPPED (Rule 11): When boats are on the same tack and overlapped, a windward boat shall keep clear of a leeward boat.
ON THE SAME TACK - NOT OVERLAPPED (Rule 12): When boats are on the same tack and not overlapped, a boat clear astern shall keep clear of a boat clear ahead.
WHILE TACKING (Rule 13): After a boat passes head to wind, it shall keep clear of other boats until it is on a close-hauled course. During that time Rules 10, 11 and 12 do not apply. If two boats are subject to this rule at the same time, the one on the other's port side, or the one astern shall keep clear.

Midwest Interscholastic Sailing Association - MISSA was established as the regional governing body for high school sailing in the Midwest. Their objective is to further the sport of sailing in Midwest secondary schools, and to provide a standardized set of rules and procedures for competition.
Lake Michigan Sail Racing Federation - The LMSRF promotes sail racing competition on Lake Michigan for offshore, youth, and inshore one-design sailors. It also provides racing information through its newsletters, e-mails, website and social media, as well as educational programs on race management and judging.
Inland Lake Yachting Association - The ILYA has served as a leading organizer and advocate of amateur yacht racing on the inland lakes of the Midwest for over 125 years. We provide healthy competition for youth and adults. Our scows are perfect for lake sailing. We serve as the US Sailing Regional Sailing Association. We are focused on sailing education, safety, top caliber racing and great family fun on the water.
National C Scow Sailing Association - The purpose of the NCSSA is to encourage, develop, promote, and foster Class C Scow racing under uniform rules in all regions of the US and Canada; to keep the cost of the C Scow within modest limits without sacrificing high standards of performance; to conduct yacht races and regattas; and to establish and enforce rules and regulations for the government of races and regattas.
